Audrey Boylan, Edmonton, Alberta artist creates paintings, drawings and mixed media artworks. In exploring the concept of movement, Audrey tries to develop forms that do not follow logical criteria, but are based only on subjective associations and formal parallels, which incite the viewer to make new personal associations.

New sequences are created which reveal an inseparable relationship between motion and emotion. By applying abstraction, she creates intense personal movements masterfully created by means of rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal, luring the viewer round and round in circles.

The results are deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted. Her abstract works are based on associations that open a unique poetic vein. Multilayered images arise in which the fragility and instability of our seemingly certain reality is questioned.

MINBID is a collective of Canadian artists who host captivating silent and live art auctions in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

For the past 15 years Audrey has been creating colorful compositions that showcase movement and vivid emotion. Versatile in a plethora of mediums she has completed a multitude of studies including Victoria School of Performing Arts, NAIT, and was a contributing member of the Edmonton Potter’s Guild. Today she journeys on, limited only by her endless imagination.

Using vibrant acrylic to express mood and emotion, Audrey creates abstract work inspired by natural elements including the sea and sky, vivid contrast is a constant theme. Currently Audrey is incorporating more emotionally driven organic fluidity and falling back to basics of human forms.

I like to use abstracts limitless potential to express feeling or mood using acrylic mainly with vibrant pigmentation, mediums and textures to give more depth.  When I paint I will often become captivated by certain strokes or the way a colour contrasts or fades into another, focusing on these areas gives rise to different moods within the work.

I am interested in the way that emotion and associations can be created with just colours and the different intricacies people experience.

The deep sea and deep space have similar features, dark suffocating silences, vast depths and radiant unearthly sights. I could spend so much time lost in the vast expanse thinking about the shades and tones, trying to represent different ideas. Red is a colour I often have a hard time leaving out, it has a special liveliness, especially in dark or blue situations. There is so much beauty in the rough edges and harsh contrasts of darker feelings.

In clouds and sky, blues of all kinds and sun creating fantasy landscapes of orange purple and pink sunsets that never seem to lose interest for me. I draw inspiration from dynamic skies to create cloudscapes where dreamy hues drift easily together, including  iridescence and copper or golds lend an ethereal ambiance I would welcome into my everyday life if I could.
